THE WAY OF THE STICK
Always wanted to practice a (Japanese) martial art? Or do you feel the need to expand your current knowledge as a budoka? Then the Jodo beginners course is an excellent opportunity to join a very select group. Jodo, the way of the stick, is one of the least known martial arts. It was developed by Muso Gonnosuke Katsuyoshi after he was defeated by Miyamoto Musashi, perhaps the most famous swordsman in Japan. After his loss, Gonnosuke developed a whole new martial art: jodo. This martial art was specifically developed to defeat swordsmen without killing them. By using a round stick that is longer than a sword, but short enough to be held between two hands, both ends of the stick can be used for a quick thrust and/or strike. These techniques have proven to be very effective in the past. To this day, the Japanese police use a modified form of jodo. The beginners course is ideal to get acquainted with the basics of jodo. During 11 weeks, different aspects will be covered, such as: correct footwork, body posture, striking technique and etiquette. The course starts on 14 January and consists of 10 weekly lessons followed by an exam in the 11th session. The training takes place on Saturdays from 10:00 to 11:00.
The location is:
-Until 28 January: Sportcampus Zuiderpark, Mr. P. Droogleever Fortuynweg 25, Den Haag
-Thereafter: Novum-Maartenshal, Marcellus Emantslaan, 2274 KX Voorburg
